Morning Sky is the second book in Judith Millers Freedom's Path Series about the Harban and Boyle families. Nicodemus, Kansas is settled by predominatly African-American familes while neighboring Hill City is mostly white.

Wings of the Morning (Kensington Chronicles, Book 2) (Paperback) Review

Lori Wick certainly is one of my favorite Christian/Romance writers, coming up to a close second to Dee Henderson. And probably my favorite books from Lori Wick are the Kensington Chronicles.
"Wings of the Morning" is about young Victoria "Smokey" Simmons, captain of one of the fastest ship of the Atlantic, the 'Aramis'. When her father, the famous Clancy, had died and left her alone in the world, she asks God to give her strength. Three years have passed and Smokey begins dreaming of life away from the sea. She wants to have a home and raise a family. When she meets another sea captain, Dallas Knight, she believes that her dreams can finally come true. Dallas, also hopelessly in love with her, shares her dreams. But when a scheming and evil pirate comes into their lives, Smokey and Dallas' hopes for the future may come to an end. Will they have the strength to overcome these painful events and to trust themselves into their Father in heaven?
A truly marvelous tale taking place in the mid-1800s, "Wings of the Morning" will have you swept into a world of romance and suspense. I love the wonderful characters of Smokey, who is young and shy yet has great spirit, and Dallas, who will do anything to protect her. They are so real that it is very hard not to like them and to hope they have their dreams fulfilled.
The other three books of the Kensington Chronicles are "The Hawk and the Jewel", "Who Brings Forth the Wind", and "The Knight and the Dove", all of them filled with romance and suspense, plus they all are about people who love and honor their God. My suggestion to you is that if you have never read any of Lori Wick's books, you should start with these four books.
And if you are looking for other terrific Christian/Romance books, I recommend all books by Dee Henderson, including the O'Malley Series, "Danger in the Shadows", and the Uncommon Heroes Series. But be ready for suspense, intrigue, and mystery, because these books are filled with them!

Morning, Noon, and Night (Hardcover) Review

This is simply a wonderful book!I truly enjoyed using it while tutoring a fourth grade remedial reader because it was simple, yet beautifully worded and superbly illustrated. Each illustration is a marvelous natureportrait in itself.My fourth grade student (who happens to be veryinterested in science) savored each lovely portrait, as we talked about theanimals and environments depicted in each one. Though the words are fewand simple, the book avoids being overly childish.Rather, it respectfullypresents the cycle of the day (morning, noon and night) and the beauty ofvarious animals as they act in their natural environments throughout theday.

Riley in the Morning (Mass Market Paperback) Review

I usually enjoy SB, even her older books, but this one was over the top.The main characters were not very likeable.The story was ridiculous.Brin leaves her husband Riley.She doesn't tell him why, and he loves her so much that he lets months go by before asking why.I just can't buy it, and couldn't invest myself in it.

His Mistress By Morning (Avon Romantic Treasure) (Mass Market Paperback) Review

HIS MISTRESS BY MORNING has an intriguing plot...

26 year old spinster charlotte wilmont has been in love with sebastian marlowe, viscount trent, for as long as she can remember. she has just received an inherited ring from her aunt, a ring that has the power to grant one wish of the person wearing it. charlotte doesn't know this at the time, but after seeing sebastian one day her secret longings are voiced aloud. she wishes sebastian was in love with her.

she awakens the next morning to find herself in the arms of sebastian after a night of passion and she's of course very confused because whereas the day before she was an on the shelf spinster, she is now the most celebrated cyprian in london and sebastian is her lover...and very much in love with her. however, sebastian isn't a rich lover and therefore must marry an heiress in order for him to save his family from financial ruin.

i purchased this book because i was curious to see how the author would pull this storyline out and unfortunately, i was disappointed with the results. while i found charlotte to be a tolerable heroine, her preoccupation with all things sebastian left her characterization threadbare. it seemed everything she did was for the sole purpose of obtaining sebastian's adoration, and this despite the fact that the reader learns nothing of why she loves him in the first place. i mean, we're told he's honorable and dependable and boring despite being handsome, which made me wonder what charlotte saw in him other than his looks.

in the 'wish world' where she's the cyprian, sebastian is totally different. here he's a rake, charming and engaging and enjoying life, but he's behaving in the opposite manner as he was in the 'world before the wish is made', so basically she's enamored with a totally different side of this guy.not to mention the fact that charlotte's alternate persona 'lottie' comes across as a mercenary and materlistic person, which made it impossible for me to believe sebastian was in love with her for any other reason than the fact that she was beautiful and great in bed. i will say the author did a decent job with the love scenes, although because the characters are supposed to be already intimate at the time the 'wish world' begins, there was a lack of build up, kind of like sex without foreplay.

the time the author spends in the 'wish world' is too long, so that by the time charlotte goes from cyprian back to spinster there are roughly one hundred pages left for her to get sebastian to fall in love with her. she uses information she gained as the cyprian in the 'wish world' to woo him, which seemed to me like cheating instead of her actually having an inate knowledge of her supposed beloved. i mean, if i had the cheat sheet to what pleased the man i loved, of course he'd fall in love with me, right? it made it seem as though their love was manipulated moreso than fated and took all of the romance of discovery out of the mix.

the ending was extremely rushed. it was like one minute sebastian is wondering who this new charlotte is (because of course she adopts some of her 'lottie' personality in her attempts to woo him) and the next minute he's in love with her. it really seemed to happen just that fast. again, very little build up.

so while i appreciate the author's original concept, i can't recommend this book. the characterization of both hero and heroine was sketchy, the heroine's singular purpose of getting the hero to fall in love with her left her uninteresting to me, and while the love scenes were done well, the lack of build up of the whole love story made me feel like they were strangers highly attracted to each other sexually, but with no other common interests to a warrant a long-lasting love.

Morning Glory (Paperback) Review

It always amazes me how consistently brilliant Lavyrle Spencer is. Even if Im not crazy about all of her books, there is no arguing that the woman can write.... "Morning Glory" is a perfect example of Spencer's enormous talent for making the characters and the scenery enveloping them leap to life. "Morning Glory" was a heartwarmingtale of Will and Elly- two lost souls who had known little happiness in their lives, but who found love in eachother. I LOVED this book. I thought that the characters growth was a wonder to watch and I enjoyed every moment. My only quibble with this book was that I felt that there wasn't enough romantic tension...Elly and Will proclaimed their love too early on for my taste, but regardless the story was enthralling. All in all a fantastic read...

I'm not usually a connoisseur of fantasy novels, as I often find them to be either too dark, or too hard to relate to the characters.But, since I love Lynn Kurland's historical novels and characters, I had to try this one out.

Lavender Morning (Edilean) (Mass Market Paperback) Review

I love Jude Deveraux, and I am happy to see her start a new series.I liked this story and the characters very much, but I was somewhat disappointed in the book in several respects. First, I thought it was too similar to several of her other books, particularly "Holly," although Ramsey is not evil the way Lorrie Beaumont was and there are no Montgomerys or Taggerts in this book.

Second, the book ended very quickly, which just left me with a lot of questions.The story revealed at the end was simply not believable, given the characters involved.I kept reading the last few pages over and over thinking I missed something and wondering.Maybe future books in the series will supply more believable information about what actually happened in the past.

Third, I always have a problem with contemporary novels where the principal characters talk/plan love and marriage after only a few kisses.

Having said all the above, I still liked this book and the characters and can't wait to read the next book in the series.It's an easy, enjoyable read without murder and mayhem.

Son of the Morning [Mass Market Paperback] Review

Grace has everything to lose: a happy life with a loving husband, a wonderful brother and an amazing career. She loses it all in one moment. To save herself and avenge the murders of her husband and brother, she is on the run with the very documents that caused all this horror. The police, thinking she killed her husband and brother, and the killer, who wants the documents, are both after her, but she is a strong and an intelligent woman and she gets away...just barely . She learns "street smarts" and how to survive despite this agressive murderer on her tail.
When Grace discovers the mystery the documents hold, she knows she must travel through time as the documents explain to meet Black Niall, who she has been dreaming about since she first discovered the documents. He has shared her hot dreams and their lust for each other is so powerful all he has to do is kiss her to make her explode with passion.
With Niall's help, they travel back to 1998 to face the ruthless killer. Niall is almost God-like in his strength and the love he shares with Grace makes you wonder if they were made for each other.
I expected a romance novel but instead, this novel was filled with action, suspence and VERY little romance...but when she finally does meet Black Niall (65 pages away from the end of the book!) they share some amazingly HOT scenes!! The story reminded me of the movie "The Fugitive" mixed with the film "Mission Impossible," But I didn't find the lack of romance all that dissapointing because the story was so well-written and interesting.
This story should be classified as a suspence thriller. She doesn't even meet the hero until page 340 (The story ends at page 400). Most of the novel is about her running from the killers. It's exciting and you really come to love Grace and care about her character. She is so three-dimensional, she seems like a real person.
Black Niall sounds delicious but he also plays a minor role in the novel. He is like the supporting character and he comes across as 2-dimensional. I never fell in love with him but I did lust after him.
The ending was sweet but I had another ending in mind that never came to fruition. However, that made the novel UNpredictable and that's a good thing. This is my first novel to read by Linda Howard, and I see myself picking up MANY more in the future. I HIGHLY recommend!

I was touched by this fictionalized account of the calamity that affects us all.Ms. Kingsbury states that it was her way of working through the grief, and I am glad she wrote this book. The characters are very true to life, seeking God's will as well as running from it. Eric and Jamie go through tremendous transformation as God becomes real to both of them. It would be difficult to finish this novel and remain closed about God's hand in our lives.
I highly recommend ONE TUESDAY MORNING. It isn't a book that can be read all in one sitting. It takes time to experience, especially the scenes that take place on September 11. Ifelt as if I was right there with the characters in the book. For an emotional, yet uplifting look at God's everlasting love and mercy in our lives, ONE TUESDAY MORNING is not to be missed.

The Morning After [Paperback] Review

This was truly a strong suspense novel.I realize that it's billed as a "romantic suspense" but trust me there is hardly any romance to be found in these pages so those of you that are scared off by the idea of romance will be safe in picking up this title.
There were a lot of character's but I don't think there were so many that one could not keep track of what was going on.Really I feel that each character did play it's part in the telling of the story.
Someone is going around killing people by burying them alive with a dead corpse.Why?How are they connected?These are the questions that haunt Detective Pierce Reed.From the beginning the killer later dubbed "The Grave Robber" draws Reed into his horrid game.Reed knows the first victim.Now it's a race against the clock to catch this killer before he kills again.
Nikki Gillette is a hard core journalist.She is after the story that will break and at the same time make her career.She has a bad blemish on her record so she has to work twice as hard to prove that she can get the job done.While working on local interest stuff she also works at trying to scoop not only her co-worker but the competition by getting all the information regarding the Grave Robber.Of course she is also in communication with the killer.He has a bone to pick with her as well.Soon this hard core newspaper journalist, and the tough as nails detective find that they have more in common then they thought.A Killer to be exact.
Nikki was an obnoxious character at times and yes, this did get on my nerves after a time.Still the twists and turns that Ms. Jackson took us on was well worth one of her annoying characters.Ms. Jackson is well on her way to becoming a mainstream suspense novelist.

And my review:

Okay, first off, I want to state that I am a HUGE fan of Catherine Anderson. I count down the days until another of her books is released. I own every single thing she's ever written, and they are all treasured keepers. But this book is going right in my "trade for credit" box. I cannot believe that this is written by the same author who wrote the moving reads of Annie's Song, Comanche Moon, Seventh Heaven, Baby Love or Phantom Waltz, just to name a few.

People have complained about the heavy-handedness of the Christian (or more specifically Roman Catholic) element in this book. I thought that people were just being oversensitive, as many had said the same about Sun Kissed, and I hadn't agreed. But the religion in this book was so heavy-handed. I'm an actively practicing Roman Catholic, and even I found it horribly preachy and obnoxious. For instance, when the heroine tells the hero that she's a psychic, he says that it "goes against the tenents of his faith". Who talks like that? I've had to tell people that I don't believe in things before (and it's usually because of my faith), and I don't say it like that. What's wrong with saying "it goes against my beliefs" or "I'm not comfortable with that" or "I don't believe in that"?

I've read actual inspirational romances that didn't lay it on as thick as it was in this novel. I started skipping the religious tangents (and there were a lot of them) to try and get back to the story. If I wanted to read about the lives of the saints and what is in the Catechism, then I'd read an entirely different type of book.

I also felt that the romance aspect of this story was rushed. It was developing nicely, when out of nowhere the hero and heroine start talking about getting married. They haven't said "I love you" or anything; they've known each other for less than a week; they'd kissed once! I was left scratching my head, wondering where the heck it had come from. Attraction, sure. Talking about dating, of course. But marriage? After one kiss? What is this, the 1800s? It was as if the author had suddenly realized, "oops! I'm past page 200, better get these two engaged." Never mind if it completely derailed the flow to the story.

Another thing that really bothered me was how hypocritical the characters were about their faith. There was all this talk about being chaste, because of what their faith teaches them. They're both waiting until marriage to have sex (the hero had vowed to never again have sex "outside of the holy bonds of wedlock" to directly quote him), then next thing you know, they're going at it like rabbits. Okay...was the premarital sex put in just so this book wouldn't have an "inspirational romance" label slapped on it? It was completely out of character and very irritating. If your characters are going to be Bible thumpers, than at least make them act like it consistently.

The romance was then put on the back burner so that the author could focus on the suspense/paranormal aspects of the story. While I enjoyed the psychic element, I bought this book expecting a romance. Instead, I got a sermon and a suspense story with a relationship tacked on.

I'm only glad this wasn't the first novel of hers that I tried, or there would never have been another. She is no longer on my auto-buy list; I'm just mad that I can't get my money back. Who is this author, and what has she done with the talented Catherine Anderson? Try just about anything else by her, especially the ones I listed above. She can write FAR better than this. As for MORNING LIGHT, I recommend you save your money--borrow it from the library if you're still determined to read it.

This book is a must read for anyone who has ever suffered abuse, but it is not a book that is limited by that description, for it is much much more.Thank you, Pam for sharing much more than just the story of one woman, lost in domestic violence. Thank you for reminding us of the faithfulness of Our Lord Jesus Christ and for reminding us to daily draw our strength through Him, in all circumstances! Your book is an awesome read. It is not only a great read for those who have been physically, emotionally, & spiritually wounded (especially by those who profess to be Christians), but it is also a book for anyone who has ever lost faith, felt unworthy, or who has lost the strength to lift up their hands in prayer and praise to the Lord. This book reminds us that God is a God of forgiveness and of wholeness. We are taught by the story that we must not allow other's to control our lives and that we must never stop calling upon the name of Jesus, even when we may feel that He does not hear our prayers or when we may fee that we are unworthy. It teaches us to "Wait upon the Lord," for He is ever present and will always answer in His time. It also teaches us to look in the mirror and refect upon who we are as Christians.Are we someone who lifts up our brother & sister, or do we work to tear them down?This story reminds us that as Christians we are to "lift up" those around us with the Love of God that has been placed upon our hearts, ever loving and ever forgiving, never casting stones or spreading hurtful words.Awesome book filled with many, many life lessons!
