Daily Light on the Daily Path: The Classic Devotional Book For Every Morning and Evening in the Very Words of Scripture [Hardcover] Review

Daily Light on the Daily Path: The Classic Devotional Book For Every Morning and Evening in the Very Words of Scripture [Hardcover]Daily Light on the Daily Path has served for centuries as a wonderful, uplifting morning and evening devotional. In the 1800s, Samuel Bagster would lead his family in morning and evening devotions (something all too lacking in most contemporary households) by compiling scripture references along central themes. His son Jonathan, remembering the power of his father's devotions, published the compiled verses years later as Daily Light on the Daily Path. Originally in the King James Version, Crossway has now published an edition using the English Standard Version, whose accuracy and literary beauty do justice to the original, and whose readability brings the 19th century classic into the 21st century.

I was initially highly skeptical about using this work as a means of daily devotion. I have never been one in favor of taking verses out of their immediate context. However, Bagster's work is a marvel. It is an inspirational work that carefully compiles the selections so that they are harmonized, yet their original intent is not lost. He made sure, as a good father should, to not twist the scriptures to his own meaning, but represent them to his family as they were meant to be read all along.

In some ways, it is not unlike using your bible's cross-reference system as a means of daily reading. The carefully selected verses around central themes are an enrichment, letting Scripture speak to Scripture. I have found this book to be just the start I need in the morning to begin my day in a mode of worship, as well as an equally positive reflection after a day of joy or toil. Now incorporating the ESV (my personal favorite for devotion, study, teaching, and preaching), Daily Light continues to serve the Christian in the beginning and end of his or her day in the Lord. This ranks alongside Charles H. Spurgeon's Morning and Evening and John Piper's Taste and See in my favorite devotional books, but Daily Light will always have a particularly special place for being exclusively and beautifully rendered in Scripture itself.

This highlyprincipled and religiously minded bookshop owner gathered his largefamily together daily for reading God's Word, testing theirknowledge by connecting the day's verses with other passages, andpraying over how it could be applied. It was from this practice ofworship that the Bagster family compiled the material for DailyLight on the Daily Path.It is said that this daily devotional book is the most popularof all time. It has touched hundreds of thousands of Christians tothe remotest corners of the world with the biblical message ofcomfort and help. Good Morning Beautiful : Winning the battle over seizures [Paperback] Review

Good Morning Beautiful : Winning the battle over seizures [Paperback]This wonderful book talks about winning the battle over seizures but to me it went far beyond that to illustrate the imperative we have as Mothers to advocate for our children. To listen to our inner voices and alarms because they matter. This story is not just for people with children who are suffering with seizure disorders but for any parent who is not being heard or who is considering disregarding what their gut is telling them.

At two-and-a-half, Christina was autistic. She didn t speak and had the cognitive ability of an infant. With one-hundred seizures a day, her life was being ripped away by a relentless villain epilepsy. When doctors gave up, we hung on to hope and became her advocates, researching, praying and believing for a miracle. A special diet, with roots in scripture, became the first miracle. Christina proved nothing is impossible when she repeated words to a song, Good Morning Beautiful. Extremely delayed, it was a huge milestone. Her story caught the attention of the national recording artist who recorded the song and prior to brain surgery, people around the world began praying for her. Now seizure and autism free, therapists cite services are no longer needed as Christina s file doesn t match the patient. She made honor roll and still sings Good Morning, Beautiful.

Morning Coffee with James [Paperback] Review

Morning Coffee with James [Paperback]Morning Coffee with James is a delightful devotional that doesn't read like a devotional! Since I do like to read my Bible with a cup of coffee, it fit my quiet time perfectly. The appeal of this book is in its format. Renae presents the book of James in five main chapters: What We Have, What We Do, What We Say, What We Feel, and What We Give.Within those chapters, Renae provides morsels of truth that go so well with that cup of coffee.

The daily scripture is presented as the "first cup of coffee." After the first cup, the "cream and sugar" is a self-reflection question, followed by an encouraging prayer. Next there's the "second cup of coffee," in which Renae teaches through cross references, to be finished to the "last drop," which is a pithy quotation to finish that morning's coffee.

Renae has a conversational style that teaches rather than preaches to the reader. And every few chapters she throws in some interesting coffee facts or recipes that are just fun to know.

I'm so glad Renae chose James as her first in this series, as it is such a good book to curl up and get to know. Maybe her next devotional book will be on "He Brews!"

Commanding Your Morning (Hardcover) Review

Commanding Your MorningCommanding Your Morning does not purport to present a never-revealed mystery from the Bible.Within the pages of this compact treatise Dr. Trimm brings the readers attention to two biblically based realities -- the power of thought and the spoken word.

For those who have not been able to grasp the fullness of the scriptures, or are looking for a deeper insight, this work will be of great value.

The author is to be commended for compiling a discourse with the intent of helping to break detrimental habits that blocks paths to fulfilling purpose.
