The Way of Transformation: Daily Life as Spiritual Practice (Paperback) Review

This is a very deep book that should be read very slowly, because each paragraph contains much wisdom.It is not a book so much for the spiritual beginner but for those who are longstanding spiritual practitioners looking for more understanding of how to manifest their spiritual wisdom in everyday life.I disagree with the other reviewer; the Durkheim does not introduce a lot of arcane or idiosyncratic terminology -- in fact he defines any unusual terms he uses, and there are not that many.Those with backgrounds in Zen and Jungian psychology would be best suited for this book. The author does not take a devotional or bhakti approach to God (Divine Being in his terminology) but more of a jnani attitude, i.e., analyzing what keeps individuals trapped in egoic identifications and estranged from the Ground of Being (another term he uses for God).

These books were wonderful to read again and I'm happy to have both books in one. A little bigger in size but then I won't lose one of them. The stories are well-written and make one feel that they are there in New York on that Tuesday morning. Definitely worth reading.

Probably the most skillfully crafted, carefully researched and heartbreaking book I have read in a long time. Each character is essential to the telling of the story. Nevertheless, however grim and truthful the story is, it will also be helpful to someone who HAS to read it. That reader will be grateful for the kind and hopeful ending. As a substitute teacher, I was required to use the story "For Ethan and Me" from "Beyond Dreams."I was shocked that the only alternative for pregnant teenage girl, Christina Calderon, was to have an abortion.Irresponsible sex with a casual friend led to pregnancy.The pregnancy was referred to as "cells" and how hard it would be to have ANOTHER baby, and how her father didn't do enough to help her and how another pregnancy would be too hard for her mother.Irresponsible behavior is glossed over, this teenage girl was drinking wine coolers when she had intercourse with the man she became pregnant by this time.He was never told she was pregnant and as a father his rights were completely ignored.At no time were her parents involved in her decision.We have to remember that Christina was still a minor.She had the abortion and was accompanied by a teenage friend to the clinic who had also had an abortion.

I have not read any of the other stories in this book.I will NOT recommend it as a matter of fact I condemn it for promoting abortion.It is not only that I dislike this book, I am disgusted by the author's emotional writing style in her attempt to influence teens.

The Evening and the Morning (Paperback) Review

I would heartily recommend this book for any one who might ever buy or sell a home, drive a car, need healthcare, buy groceries, or use a credit card... in short, just about anyone could save big using the tips in this book!

I feel better treating myself to coffee or a yoga class knowing I saved thousands of dollars on my home purchase. The other aspect of this book that I loved was the sheer amount of research that was done to compile a massive list of resources. The author provides countless websites throughout the text to make the most of her tips. If I had tried to find all of this information online, it would have taken me weeks and I'm sure I would have missed some important tips. This book boils down a huge amount of information into something entirely usable and helpful. The bottom line is, it's so easy to save a lot of money; you just have to know where to start. This book will show you how.
