Morning in the Burned House [Paperback] Review

Morning in the Burned House [Paperback]This book is very aptly titled. The poems feel like waking up in a pile of cinders that used to be a house. Not sad really.Just sort of empty. As if everything has been reduced to stark facts with a few flowerssprouting here and there out of the ashes. There is something profoundlytouching about these poems. They do an amazing job of conveying the spentfeeling after the huge emotional turmoil of losing a parent. One line fromthe book that runs through my head sometimes:"After a pause, shesays--he hears her say--'I love you like salt.'"

Christmas Day in the Morning (Hardcover) Review

Christmas Day in the MorningThis book truly exemplifies the true meaning of christmas, to love one another. When Rob, the 15 year old boy of a modest farm family, overhears his parents talking, he comes to realize the love his father has for him and the love he also holds for his father. Not having the money to purchase a gift that he feels expresses this love, he chooses to surprise his father by doing the morning milking and chores before the usual 4AM.He sneaks out to the barn and his heart bursts with love as he waits for his father to discover the surprise. The illustrations are beautiful, dark and dusky like the time of day before surnrise, and the clouds in the sky take the shape of the Holy Family on the first Christmas.A valuable lesson for all.The gift of love is the most precious gift of all.

Joy in the Morning (Perennial Classics) [Bargain Price] [Paperback] Review

Joy in the Morning [Paperback]I couldn't believe that I didn't pick this book up immediately when I was sick with the flu ~~ this is one book you cannot just put down and go do something else. You have to devote a day to enjoy the rich characterizations that Betty Smith created with this book! It is incredibly romantic and upbeat!!
Just like Frannie in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, you'll fall in love with Annie. Annie moves west to Chicago from Brooklyn to marry Carl, her sweetheart. And the story is about her first year with Carl, getting pregnant and making new friends in a strange town and making do with little money. And throughout this whole book, Annie faces every challenge with an upbeat and cheerful spirit. And she will steal your heart too!!
I am almost afraid to watch the movie because the book itself is absolutely wonderful!! It's incredibly romantic and wonderful. Please don't hesitate to buy it ~~ it's a good buy and one that will warm your heart forever!!...
