Morning Coffee (Paperback) Review

Morning CoffeeThis book, as well as Warren Bonesteels 'online version' put out daily, as well as his new website, are something that many internet families wouldn't/CAN'T begin a new day without anymore!I met Warren online quite some time ago and have been an avid daily reader as well as sharing his daily "Morning Coffee" posts with groups throughout the internet with!Often times I don't go to bed at night until Warren has posted is daily issue of "Morning Coffee" and I've got it out to one and all for their reading pleasure first thing in the Morning.Several people have relied upon this and can't begin a decent day without their cup of java AND their dose of "Morning Coffee"

Warren speaks, types, in a down to earth southern style, a one on one level that anyone and everyone can accept. He makes you KNOW you're family, that you're welcome at his table for a cup of good hot STRONG java and you're welcome to stay as long as you like.Bones (as we nickname him) is not one of those who'll push his ideas on the reader and personally states what he thinks and is more than willing to have YOU write him back with YOUR opinions.Warren is HUMAN, treats his readers as the human beings they are, and always leaves the kitchen table with an open door policy and the knowlege that the coffee is always brewing, strong, hot, good, and that one and all are welcome to join him for some!God Bless this man's Golden Heart! This is THE BOOK~~ONE HUMAN BEING SPEAKING WITH OTHER HUMAN BEINGS on an even level with the reader. Not the 'usual high fallutin Enlgish that the reader has to stop and say, HUH?And need to re-read to attempt to understand what was said.In the humor, the stories, the discussions, the 'visitin', most generally there will be a 'moral to the story'.This book is FOR ALL AGE GROUPS AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO SOME OF THE WORLD'S YOUTH OF TODAY, THEY JUST MIGHT LEARN A BIT ABOUT RESPECT!

Monday Morning Leadership: 8 Mentoring Sessions You Can't Afford to Miss (Paperback) Review

Monday Morning Leadership: 8 Mentoring Sessions You Can't Afford to MissThe best business books are brief, clear and pertinent.Monday Morning Leadership fits all of those requirements.

You can read the whole book in a few minutes . . . and think about and apply what you learned for a lifetime.

The format is around a man who's struggling as a manager. His operation isn't performing well. His boss isn't happy. He's not happy. He doesn't have time to be with his family or to do what he likes to do.It looks like his career has peaked . . . and his job may be in jeopardy. What to do?

If that sounds familiar, almost everyone has had that experience who has taken on a management role.

Jeff decides to do something about it.He contacts an old family friend, Tony Pierce, who has had a very successful business career.Tony has agreed to meet with Jeff for eight weeks on Monday mornings.

In their eight sessions, Jeff learns the following lessons:

1. He has to accept total responsibility for results without excuses and to think like a leader rather than a manager or follower.

2. Be sure everyone knows what the main thing is that they have to accomplish and keep their faith in you as a leader.

3. Get closer to your people and help your top performers improve.

4. Act with integrity and prepare for how to handle problems before they occur.

5. Improve the team you have by only hiring high performers.

6. Manage your time carefully by looking for ways to save minutes wherever you can and by being more effective at whatever you do.

7. Encourage, recognize and respect your people.

8. Advance your learning by reading, being open to trying new things, listening, helping others, setting goals and always being professional and positive.

Those points make it sound like you don't need to read the book. You already knew most of those things, didn't you?But the story will embed the learning into your mind in powerful ways.Don't miss it!

I was especially impressed by Mr. Cottrell's ability to turn a phrase. The book abounds with aphorisms that you will find yourself remembering and possibly quoting as you coach your replacements. Many of the best ways are repeated on pages 97-101.Here's one of my favorites:"People quit people before they quit companies."Key principles are also summarized on pages 102-103.

This book would also make a great gift to some you know who is just starting out as a manager. The gift will be even more meaningful if you offer to coach that person as well.

Make a difference!

A User's Guide to the Book of Common Prayer: Morning And Evening Prayer (User's Guide to the Book of Common Prayer: Morning and Eveni) [Paperback] Review

A User's Guide to the Book of Common Prayer: Morning And Evening Prayer [Paperback]As a newcomer to leading Morning Prayer I found this book invaluable in developing the understanding and confidence that I needed. During Lent I purchased multiple copies of this for my parish so that others would also feel empowered to lead morning or evening prayer. Fr. Webber concisely frames Morning Prayer in its historical context and provides valuable insights though the use of running commentary in a parallel page format throughout the text of the prayer service. By explaining the purpose of each component Fr. Webber removes the uncomfortable sense of not knowing why or if participation includes recitation of all of the various components that comprise Morning Prayer. After reading this book anyone should feel at peace in leading a morning or evening prayer service.

Don't Do That!: A Child's Guide to Bad Manners, Ridiculous Rules, and Inadequate Etiquette (Rainbow Morning Music Picture Books) [Hardcover] Review

Don't Do That: A Child's Guide to Bad Manners, Ridiculous Rules, and Inadequate Etiquette [Hardcover]Anyone who lives with kids or is a kid, will appreciate the real life humor of this book. People aren't perfect and you've GOT to let off stress and pressure somehow. And there's no better way than teasing your siblings or embarrassing your parents, or playing little harmless practical jokes.

This book DOES stress that going too far with it is wrong, and only encourages harmless fun...unless you were highly sensitive and don't get along with other human beings, you'll love this book.

Even the illustrations are funny. Like the section on "What do do when your parents do dumb things". It shows the parents dressed like ridiculous tourists and advices the child not get embarrassed, but "instead, look around the room as if you were looking for your real parents..." The humor is along those lines. Totally harmless and funny as hell...I mean heck.

A Child's Good Morning Book (Hardcover) Review

A Child's Good Morning BookWhen our baby received books as gifts, 75% of them were bedtime oriented.I wanted to read to her in the mornings when she was most alert. The book shows how all the animals and plants wake up when the sun rises. The textis simple, but not boring.Though she is only a few months old, our babyresponds well to the contrasting colors (mostly orangey-reds and greens). Because they are portrayed as sleeping huddled together, the bunnies andsheep are hard to discern, though. This book offers a brightly illustratedchoice to parents and children who want to wake up to books.

Dad and Me in the Morning [Hardcover] Review

Dad and Me in the Morning [Hardcover]As a Deaf person myself, I was pleased with the positive imagines in this work. This is an excellent book based on the relationship between a deaf child and his father. It displayed the father's acceptence of his child'sneed for ASL (American Sign Language) and the williness and time to learnit. It is also a good way to introduce the rudiments of Deaf culture to thegeneral public. It should be recommended reading for all - includinghearing children. The watercolor illustrations and the context within worktogether beautifully and was well recieved by students at GallaudetUniversity (a liberal arts university for the deaf/hard of hearingstudents.

Mexican Mornings: Essays South of the Border (Paperback) Review

Mexican Mornings: Essays South of the BorderThis is Dr. Michael Hogan's latest book, a collection of essays written over the past decade while the author has lived and taught in Guadalajara, Mexico. This is quite possibly his best book, displaying a wide range of topics and an incredible maturity and intelligence that only comes when one's perspectives have been expanded. In one essay, "Letter to a Troubled Student," he deals with the Zapatista uprising of Chiapas, Mexico, telling his student that it is not scary that a group of Indians are taking on the Mexican government, but that, in any war, the truth is always the first victim. To him, and to a lot of us, that is truly scary. Through this essay, marked for its open-mindedness and its intelligence, Hogan is able to explain how his fears transcend the egocentric level, acheiving a greater understanding and universality.
This is the modus operandi for the rest of the book, which is a collection of essays written in Mexico over a period of the past ten years. They relate the expatriate experience, but they differ from other expatriate books because these essays are observations told through the eyes of a person who is committed to the lifelong quest of knowledge, a person who is committed to learning about his surroundings. All the essays are examples of a deep thought process, and one gets the realization that the author is just as much the teacher as he is the student.
One of the best examples of this, and also one of the defining elements of the book itself is the obvious influence that Mexican Poet Octavio Paz had and still has on Hogan's life.Paz's presence is everywhere in the book;the musicality of his poetry helping Hogan the young boy overcome his stuttering problem, the incisive nature of his essays helping Hogan the teacher in teaching the Odyssey to his ninth graders, the profound depth of his social critiques helping Hogan the human being understand humanity and the Mexican better.
This book is a deep, insightful study into the psychology of the expatriate. In my opinion it is a peer to that other great book about the human condition, "The Labyrinth of Solitude."It is also the only expatriate book that is fully able to document the reasons why a person chooses to leave his home country. It interacts with the reader on many levels, displaying intelligence, while appealing to the poets, the teachers, the scholars, the human beings in all of us.It also displays a deep love for a country that is not the native land for the author, nor for many expatriates. And it is this love that makes the book, and the essays within so compelling.I am reminded at this point, while searching for the place to end my review, of some lyrics from the song "Atlanta" by the Stone Temple Pilots.

"Visions of Mexico seduce me,
It goes to my head so carefully."

Product Description:
This is a collection of essays on Mexico written by a well-known poet and historian who has made his home in Guadalajara for the past decade and a half. Michael Hogan gives us glimpses into the Mexican character which build on and illuminate those of Nobel Laureate Octavio Paz. However, he does more. Hogan shows us both the high life and the low life, the country and the city, the inside of the board rooms, and the inside of the living rooms. He takes us to the jungles of Chiapas, the halls of the largest university, to the communal farm, and inside the church. Through Hogan's eyes we meet with Fidel Castro in Guadalajara Centro, we attend a concert of the Tigres del Norte at the jammed-packed Rio Nilo stadium, and watch the behavior of horses during a solar eclipse. He also describes the results of globalization on the economy and suggests currents of change. It has been called by one reviewer, "the mostfascinating insider's view of Mexico in the past decade!."

Managing Morning Sickness: A Survival Guide for Pregnant Women [Paperback] Review

Managing Morning Sickness: A Survival Guide for Pregnant Women [Paperback]Miriam Erick is a hero in our household.I have gotten through two pregnancies with severe Hyperemesis. My first pregnancy, I purchased Miriam Erick's first book, "No More Morning Sickness," while I was unable to keep any food down and had IV fluids being administered to me at my home.I was on the IV for one month and had visiting nurses come to check on me a few times per week.I felt incredibly isolated with the disease of Hyperemesis and I didn't know where to turn for support.Miriam's 1st book helped me get through each day.

A few years later, my husband and I decided to plan for another pregnancy. We met with many specialists and even traveled to Boston to meet with Miriam Erick personally.I was then informed of this book, Managing Morning Sickness. I purchased it immediately and read it cover to cover before even conceiving our second child. It was a life saver filled with nutrition information, recipes and meal plans for different cravings (e.g. salty, crunchy, etc.), descriptions of complications from hyperemesis, medications being used and even alternative therapies. This book also talks about triggers for morning sickness, which helped me to try to avoid certain scents & situations.Per Miriam's advice, lemons are a great for trying to prevent nausea.Lemons are not only great for drinking as lemonade, but for sniffing as well.I would carry a fresh lemon wedge around with me whenever I had to go to doctor appointments or any other place with a lot of people. If I started to get nauseous from a particular smell or fragrance, I would sniff my lemon wedge and the nausea would get a little better.

I can't say enough about how Miriam's books helped me get through my pregnancies.Hyperemesis is a life threatening disease if not treated properly and Miriam's knowledge allowed me to ask my medical team the right questions in order to get the treatment that I needed.Thank you Miriam for your wonderful books filled with fabulous knowledge and resources!!!
